Richie's Store

Richie’s Store is an extension of Richie Shazam's current exhibition, I WAS NEVER MEANT TO SURVIVE THIS, on view at McLennon Pen Co., Austin, through May 10, 2026. Within the online shop, you may acquire a limited-edition book created alongside the exhibition, as well as ephemera transformed into bespoke artworks. These include Polaroids and cyanotypes produced during the creation of her seven portraits—each piece a fragment of the immersive tableaux, adorned with objects such as traditional Guyanese decorations, torn stockings, porno DVDs, insulin devices, and other collected materials that informed and inhabited her constructed worlds.

 

These works trace the process of continual becoming, memory, and survival, offering intimate glimpses into the psychological and domestic landscapes that shaped the exhibition. Each item is both a document and a creation in its own right—where dreamscapes, disruptions, and the soft violence of memory converge, and where the body, objects, and narrative are reclaimed and made visible.
